Stained Glass Workshop
Stained Glass Workshop
Friday, 18th September saw the first ACFAA Stained Glass Workshop, held at the Centre de Loisirs in Eymet.
Our experienced host, Loraine Crooks, had spent many hours beforehand preparing a wonderful selection of glass shapes for participants to work with. There were numerous themes to choose from, including flowers, birds, Halloween designs, Christmas angels and many more.
Each participant took their place at the worktables and began by learning how to foil and secure their chosen glass motif. Once the pieces were assembled and securely held in place, we each had the opportunity to experience the art of soldering, under the expert guidance of Loraine’s husband, Dave.
Loraine’s interest in stained glass began around 20 years ago, when she spotted an advert in the local newspaper offering regular classes to learn the techniques involved. She has been hooked ever since! Her fascination with the way light interacts with the warmth and colour of glass has inspired her to create many fascinating and elaborate pieces of art.
As Loraine so beautifully put it, “It’s a tactile medium that lets your imagination take you on a journey.”
Our glass creations have now returned home with Loraine and Dave, as there is a further process to complete before they are finally finished. We are all very much looking forward to seeing the completed pieces.
We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn a little more about this fascinating craft, and would like to thank Loraine and Dave for all the time, preparation and encouragement they gave to our enthusiastic group of novices.
Thank you, Loraine and Dave, for a fascinating and enjoyable workshop!
