Trip to Fources, Fete des Fleurs & Les Jardins de Coursiana – April 2025

Gardening

A coach full of enthusiastic plant hunters set off from Eymet at 08h30.  The weather did not look promising, but we were all hopeful, and well equipped with boots, umbrellas and raincoats.

Our coach was given a prime parking spot and this meant numerous journeys back and fore to deposit plants when we could carry no more.

Lunch was taken at various restaurants in this beautiful circular bastide town and then all back on board at 14h00 for the short journey to the Jardins de Coursiana.  Five acres of beautiful gardens and an arboretum with may unusual mature trees.  After a visit to the plant nursery, selling roses, shrubs and trees, propagated on site, we enjoyed light refreshments in the tea shop before heading back to Eymet.

We enjoyed our day out and were lucky not to have too much rain to spoil our day.

Harvest Festival – Autumn 2024

Gardening

Good afternoon everyone

We had fun yesterday at our first meeting of the season.  There was a lovely selection of homemade dishes and this made choosing a winner difficult so a team of volunteer judges were enlisted to choose their favourite.

Belinda Marand’s delicious lemon geranium cake took the top spot, with Cathy and Michelle in hot pursuit with their homemade tomato soup and tasty chutney respectively.

The best pot plant was won by Jean and Derek Wright with their superb Impatiens niamniamensis (or Congo cockatoo).

Lastly, a big thank you to those who brought in plants, vegetables and dishes to taste and also to Tina and Marjorie for serving refreshments.  We must also thank Wendy O’Meara for organising membership cards at the front desk and for being our guest judge.

Plant Swap - May 2024

Gardening

A big thank you to Linda for hosting the plant swap at the end of May.  Linda’s hard work was evident as the garden looked glorious.

There was a lot of choice of plants so thank you to all those who brought something to swap and to those who brought cakes and biscuits.  Sarah did a great job serving refreshments, thank you Sarah.

Summer Picnic - June 2025

Gardening

We were all very grateful to Derek and Jean Wright for hosting the end of season gardening group picnic.

We found some lovely shady places to sit and enjoy our picnic.

A delightful garden and delightful company.

Plant Swap - May 2025

Gardening

A group of enthusiastic plant hunters came along this morning with seedlings in abundance for sharing with others.  Vegetable, annuals, small shrubs, young trees, perennials and many seeds were loaded onto the table.

Bob and Di were at the registration desk, making a list of the plants as members arrived, just in case labels are lost and then we will be able to identify the plants when they are fully grown.  Linda looked after the plant table, to ensure that plants had a label and that everyone knew what they were selecting.

Tina was at the refreshments table making sure everyone had a hot drink and some delicious cake and then the plant swap began. After two or three visits to the table, everyone was satisfied they had swapped their own offering for something new to plant in their gardens.

Lastly, everyone took away a giant sunflower seedling and we will bring them back in September, after the summer break, and see who has managed to grow the biggest sunflower.
